The Well Play

“Towed Under” is a solo performance film written and performed by Emma Magnus that I directed as part of my senior thesis. It is a surrealist adaptation of Euripedes’ “Medea” that takes place in a slowly filling well. Over the years scholars have debated over which genre Medea falls under and that is the primary focus of this piece. Broken into five distinct sections the audience not only watches the character “Mimi’s" journey but explores how love, life, fantasy, horror, and tragedy influence the story of “Medea”.
