MEASURING GOD

“Measuring God” is a solo performance that I began writing in high school and finished as a part of my senior thesis. It is about a young woman recalling repressed memories of abuse that she faced at the hand of a priest at her school. I took inspiration from Ryan White’s docuseries “The Keepers” and Shakespeare’s “Measure For Measure” and combined the stories not only to point out the similarities in their circumstances, but to speak on the fact that a play that was written 400 years ago talking about clergy abuse, is still relevant till this day. This piece is an exploration of survival and the lasting effects of trauma. The situation is specific, the story is universal.
